London Collections Men is the relatively new destination on the worldwide fashion callendar. Backed by the British Fashion Council and GQ’s Dylan Jones its the Menswear alternative to London Fashion Week.
Controversial in its timing (for the past four seasons its clashed with Florences Pitti Uomo, this has now been resolved) and LCM has emerged as a front player in the mens fashion market.
Mr B and I started off the weekend with with the official launch and a Superdry catwalk show in a hidden destination under Londons dank railway arches, the venue shined with fashions finest. We ate lobster rolls and drank freshly designed cocktails from Londons top (if slightly arrogant) mixologists….that said they did taste pretty good!
The catwalk show although not my style (sorry Superdry) was teaming with perfectly groomed male and female models. The show was a resounding success. Made all the better by what can only be described as a top set from DJ Mark Ronson. London’s supercool set and Mr B took to the floor. Then we watched England v Italy. I couldn’t help but wish that Mr Ronson had played on.
The next day saw the start of the catwalk shows, static presentations also worth a look were the LCM showroom spaces at Victoria House and The Hospital Club.
LCM has become a key destination for PR and Press, being London its fantastic to kick off the menswear season with a bit of London celebration. I hear it’s also pulling in North American buyers on the way to Florence. Win win.
The thing is, in this time of UK economic recovery, London is pulling the best hoteliers and restauranteurs to the capital, its only right that actors, celebrities and fashionistas will follow. And why not, Lets be proud of our glorious, exciting capital city and its emerging, growing fashion scene. Lets not be quite so British and give due credit. Well done LCM, Well done British Fashion Council, Hell well done London.
