The Statement Necklace – Style Diary #08

My work wardrobe although varied has some no-nonsense staples.  For this season frayed jeans (soft, comfortable denim) clog sandals of various colours and heights, shirts, striped, frilled, plain white and a good smartish jacket.

This last week I’ve found a new staple that I now seem to be wearing every day, behold the statement necklace.  I’ve always been one for scarves and gold chains as my go to neckwear.  I’ve ditched the norm in favour of super chunky, big bold beads.

I’ve kept it quite modern and funky with perspex.  It’s fun ready to wear jewellery.  Pop it on for the perfect day.

Happy Monday

Sunday Supplement #26

Sunday for me is such a good food day.  Sunday is the day to relax and take pleasure in leisurely preparing and eating your dinner.

Sunday feels like a day when you don’t need to be just refuelling, you can take time to plan and cook and make the most wonderful things to eat and share.

However what with London Fashion Week, and a super busy work week I’ve just not had the time to plan and prepare my usual culinary cuisine.  My midweek meals have consisted of goody bag fodder, popcorn, cupcakes and coconut milk and take aways on the London to Brighton night train home….Hmmm.

Thankfully this week I got my first Simply Cook pack in the post, four amazing recipes in one box posted through the door.

It is THE way to Transform Your Mid-week Mealtimes if you a short on time but big on food.

SimplyCook is obsessed with flavour. They hunt the world for delicious dishes and work out the flavour combinations that make them so tasty. Then they source and combine these flavour blends and deliver them to you, along with simple 20 minute recipes to follow.

Four delicious recipes, regularly delivered through your letterbox as often as you want them.  Each recipe comes with 3 authentic flavour blends (like stocks, spices and glazes). With up to 18 ingredients in each flavour blend, these make the meals taste truly authentic.
I have to say I’ve been really impressed with the Simply Cook pack and how easy they make midweek meals, I cooked all four recipes in one week, I especially liked Goan Fish Curry, and this is how I did it…….

Have a lovely food filled Sunday!

Sunday Supplement #23

Well it’s certainly the middle of Winter.  My folks have snow in Durham. I do love a Winter Sunday, lighting the fires, lighting candles, listening to BBC Radio 6 music is a must. The hubby is cooking bangers and mash later so we are going to be spending some serious time on the sofa with the pooch.

I’ve gone a bit head over heels for rose gold for the start of the year, it all started with my Caravelle New York Rose Gold Watch which Mr B choose for me for Christmas,  lucky gal!  He first of all gave me one of those granny shopping trolleys, so the watch was a good surprise,

Then I picked up an amazing rose gold necklace from British Red Cross for a surprising £1, they have a huge collection so check out your nearest store.

Then on my thrift store rules I picked out this rose gold silk undies set from M&S, It’s currently in the sale So I think I’ve done well from my consumerism start to the year.

Have a fab Sunday

Black Friday Weekend – Mindful Shopping

I’m guessing you have all been exposed to some sort of Black Friday Sale today?

Did you like it? Did you buy?

As a retailer, writer and consumer I’m really not sure.

On the one hand, we all like bargains for Christmas but then I hardly ever pay full price for anything. I always shop around, So why should I buy this weekend?

As a retailer, why should we go into sales in the busiest part of the year?

Hmmm, Its a difficult one, my heart is with what I call mindful shopping, shop local, shop small brands shop well, where you can.  But dont beat yourself up if you do buya new laptop or TV for less.

At Boston&Boston, our online accessories store,  we have placed some items in the sale, for us it was long overdue on some older collections so please shop our sale and grab a bargain while you can.

New and current stock is available, and at the moment we can offer free UK standard delivery and free international delivery.  If you want we can even gift wrap.

Let me know your thoughts on #blackfriday  Good or bad?

Sunday Supplement #12

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  I’m loving the weather at the moment.  Hot and sunny Friday so lunch with the girls and delayed birthday celebration, amazing cards and gifts, in particular, this gold leaf cuff from Mojiana, local jewellery designer. check her out.

IMG_9963 IMG_9955

Which got me thinking, I have some lovely gold jewellery, somewhere.  I dug deep into my jewellery stash and found an old gold watch I’d not worn for ages, a beautiful gold and carnelian pendant from Baroque Brighton and my Gran’s antique Gold Locket.

Autumn is such a lovely time to delve back into old jewellelry, especially if its gold.  Dressed in my new found bling I spent Saturday at Shoreham local farmers market and lunch with the folks.  What a treasure trove Shorham by Sea is.  Just a few miles down the road from Brighton its a bustling market town filled with cafes and charity shops full of vintage finds and antiques.

Which brings me on to my new favourite thing…..Vintage coats.  I’ve picked up some amazing coat and jacket bargains this Autumn from Charity shops.  My favourites are a tan leather bomber and a full length camel crombie, with a fur collar, er hello?  Camel and tan go amazingly well with my new found gold jewellery booty may I add?

I’ve also nabbed one of the beautiful Camel leather rucksacks by Jas MB in our Boston & Boston stock.

Officially taking ones stock for personal use needs to be accounted for and this is known as ‘shrinkage’.  I kid you not!

Anyway beautiful weekend topped off with my favurite things  – walking the dog on the south downs followed by pub roast and the most amazing sunset.

Easing myself into Sunday night now with the fire lit and Downton Abbey.

Maybe Autumn is my favourite season?  It’s certainly the most beautiful.

Scarf Love

By far the most useful and loved items in my wardrobe are scarves.

I’ve long been a lover of this silk, demure yet seductive accessory.  A new designer scarf in silk, or silk georgette is my idea of heaven.

It’s the accessory that just keeps on giving, wear it around your neck, draping from your shoulders, carry it from one shoulder, hold it in your hand or tie it to your bag Grace Kelly style.  A scarf will  keep you warm, it keeps you cool in the sun and protects you from the rain.  Hides your modesty when you laugh, mops your tears when you cry.

My Gran never left the house without a scarf, every day she would select a co-ordinating scarf from the bureau add a squirt of perfume and off she would go, ready to face the day.  The scarf is the epitome of finished style.

I’ll bet you The Queen is never without a scarf, she’ll hike the hills around Balmoral as long as she has a trusty head square in her pocket ready at the first gust of wind, to tie around her head.  Who needs a crown when you have a silk scarf?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt’s also the best wardrobe update I know.  A pair of jeans,  a white T-shirt and a scarf are my wardrobe staples, I’ve also been known to wear a scarf as a halter neck top or a dress come summer and whip it off once on the beach to provide a seating or picnic area!

A love a designer scarf, a cool bit of lettering, a slogan or an iconic scarf, I wont say no to Hermes though I favour local designers like Age of Reason and Modern Love.

I’m not quite sure how many scarves I have, I dare not count for fear Mr B puts a halt to my scarf buying capers….Let it be said loud and proud…You can never have too many scarves

Some of the scarves pictured are available on Boston&Boston (and some are now in the sale!)

Sunday Supplement #05

What’s happened to the weather? It’s tipping it down here at Honest HQ!

Feels more like Winter than the last week of July, funnily enough, I feel like I have my seasons mixed up at the moment having spent a day in London this week visiting more fashion brands and department stores and their Winter/Christmas Offerings.

I was given the most beautiful bouquet of Christmas themed flowers from Harrods. All red roses, thistles and red berries, they smell delicious and what with the dark day today, the house is smelling a little Christmassy, I even lit a couple of candles.

This afternoon I’m thinking of cooking a wintry roast and hunkering down to read up on the best of this weeks blogs.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Sunday Supplement #04

Hi all,

A scorcher of a day here in Brighton. It’s been nice to have a relaxing day in the garden topping up the tan and reading the papers.

This week saw many fashion and beauty brands launch to the press their new offerings for Autumn/Winter 2015.  It’s generally known as Christmas in July, which always seems odd at this time of year, especially with the sun out!

Too many individual brands to mention for a Sunday, although I will be posting as and when they become available.  Loved absolutely everything new from Liberty watch out for the Christmas Beauty Advent Calender, it’s already on my list!

Amazon also had an amazing beauty offering for the coming season with skincare from Skin Doctors, fragrances from Sarah Jessica Parker and Miller Harris. Huge fan of MH so good to now know Amazon have it covered.

I ended the day at River Island’s press event where the lovely creative ladies made me a Boston bauble for the tree.

It’s soo pretty I don’t think I can wait until December, must find somewhere to hang it now!

Here’s my Sunday supplement reading list this week;

1/ Hair Revelations from India Knight.

2/ Waistcoats from Pandora Sykes.

3/ Minimal Must Haves from Lady Loves Fashion.

Enjoy your Sunday Evening.

The Sunday Supplement #01

Good Morning

I’ve been meaning for a while now to post on a Sunday.  A sort of roundup of what’s been happening in my week, an edit of the best brands I’m working with and introduce you to the blogs I’m reading, it being Sunday it’s never quite happened until now.

It’s been a busy week for me.  Lots of packing boxes for Mr B’s company denisonboston and generally running around spinning plates from fashion PR, to retailer, to blogger. I’ve also had both a breakfast and lunch meeting this week in Bills Restaurant Brighton, which apart from being delicious will hopefully reveal some exciting news soon….watch this space!

Not to forget its sales season so I have flitted in and out of stores, buying the odd sales item, including these nude/peach sandals from M&S (no longer online but available in selected stores)…….Mr B I’ve saved you so many £££’s!!!!

Deborah SimpsonBoston

Also worth a mention really good nail colours from leading brands…I could get used to this and never need to shop for nail varnish again!

Sunday is such a lovely day for catching up with friends, going out to special events or just staying in and catching up with some reading.

I have a Sunday routine, I make coffee and breakfast and curl up with Bloglovin to catch up with the blogs I follow.  So grab a cuppa and take a look at my favourite blogs of the week….

1/ In honor of Glastonbury The Frugality – Festival Dressing

2/ Because I’ve just finished my photography course and I love taking shots of flowers Stylonylon – Snapshot

3/ For her brilliant sense of fun and style, I go by Frankie – Hoots, Dots & Daisies

There you have it,

Have a brilliant Sunday everyone and if you’re not at Glastonbury watch the highlights on BBC

Jas MB AW15 Preview & Sample Sale On Now

Hey Folks

There’s hardly a break in the fashion calendar, new season development, samples, shows, buying, selling, making and finally delivering those all important products into our shops.

Deborah Simpson Boston

I’ve been busy spending the last few months organising press days and showing products to press and bloggers. Much of this time has been spent showcasing the fabulous new collection from luxury leather brand Jas MB.

First we had a press day where among others we showed the collection to the beautiful gals from LadyLoves Danielle Alexandria and Natalie Courtoise.  They loved the collection, they both have a very different style and headed towards very different bag shapes and textures. They also enjoyed the cupcakes!

Last week top blogger Whitney Valvedere from Whitney’s Wonderland paid us a visit. I’m taking a photography course at the moment so my camera is with me at all times, so I took this opportunity to take some snaps of the new collection, it turned into a bit of an impromptu photoshoot.  Here’s the results, mostly pics of the insanely pretty Whitney (who is just as sweet as she looks) but I’ve also added a couple of pic of Brand Manager Miss Mel and some cheeky selfies.  What do you think?

Oh and if you happen to be in Shoreditch the next couple of days, get yourself down to 20 Rivington Street for the Jas MB Sample Sale, on today and tomorrow so be quick!
